Maintenance

2016-2017

We have carried out extensive renovation and redecoration over the last couple of years.  With standing water under the floor of the north side of the building, this lead to rot in the floor boards.  The water ingress had also caused staining and mildew on the eastern wall.

To resolve the ingress of water, we started by installing a drain around the perimeter of the church, so that any water from the hill on the North side of the church would be diverted through the drains rather than under the walls and under the floor.  This seemed to work, but their was still evidence of wet & dry rot in the floor.  So after extensive fund raising over the last few years in 2017 the committee were in a position to instruct contractors to commence the internal works.  The church was closed after the Easter Sunday Service in 2017, and reopened with a service of celebration on Sunday 18th June 2017.

We were grateful for a grant from Devon Historic Churches Trust, legacies and gifts from individuals, and the help and support of all who have contributed to our fund raising.
